The Umbro power band is a long, blue loop band of 208 cm with a resistance rating of 15 kg. You can use it for full-body strength exercises such as squats, deadlifts, rows and presses, for assisted pull-ups on a sturdy bar and for stretching. It is a good choice if you train at home, travel a lot or want an extra tool next to dumbbells and kettlebells that hardly takes up any space.
Who it suits
A 15 kg rating sits in the medium to strong range. For leg and hip exercises, most beginners will find it a good working resistance. For the upper body, it can feel heavy at first, so you may need to shorten the stretch or choose a lighter band for presses and arm work. Our resistance band workout for beginners shows how to set up a complete routine with bands.
A simple full-body session
Stand on the band with both feet hip-width apart for the first four exercises. Do 2 to 3 rounds:
- Band squat: hold the top of the loop at shoulder height and squat, 10 to 12 reps.
- Band Romanian deadlift: hold the loop in both hands, hinge at the hips and stand tall, 10 to 12 reps.
- Bent-over row: hinge forward and pull the band towards your lower ribs, 10 to 12 reps.
- Overhead press: press the band up from your shoulders; step on it with one foot if it is too hard, 8 to 10 reps.
- Pallof press: anchor the band at chest height to something solid and press it straight out without letting your torso turn, 8 per side.
Move slowly, especially on the way back. Bands punish fast, uncontrolled returns. To keep making progress over the weeks, see strength training for beginners.
What to look for in a power band
Long loop bands differ mainly in width: wider bands pull harder. Many people own two or three bands of different strengths to cover both small upper-body muscles and strong legs, so this 15 kg band works well alongside a lighter one.
Care and safety
Check the band for nicks, tears and thin spots before every session and replace it if you find any. Only anchor it to stable objects, never let go of a stretched band and keep it away from your face. Store it rolled up, away from direct sunlight, heat and sharp edges, and wipe it with a damp cloth after sweaty workouts.

FAQ
What does 15 kg mean on a resistance band?
It is the manufacturer's rough guide to how hard the band pulls when stretched. Resistance rises the further you stretch it and ratings are not standardised between brands, so compare bands by feel rather than by the number.
Can I use this band for assisted pull-ups?
Yes. Loop it around a sturdy pull-up bar and place a knee or foot in the lower end. The band supports you most at the bottom, where the pull-up is hardest.
How long does a resistance band last?
That depends on how often and how far you stretch it. Check it before each session and replace it as soon as you see nicks, cracks or thin spots.
