At a glance

  • EVA foam that is easy to wipe clean after sweaty sessions
  • Textured surface for firmer, more focused pressure than a smooth roller
  • Hollow core keeps it light to carry to the gym or park
  • Use it on calves, thighs, glutes and upper back

The Fitpaddy MROLLER01 is a black foam roller made of EVA foam, with a textured surface and a hollow core. You lie or sit on it and roll slowly over your calves, thighs, glutes or upper back to massage the muscles yourself. It suits warm-ups before a workout, cool-downs afterwards and short mobility sessions at home.

Who it suits

A foam roller is a good fit for runners, people who do strength training and anyone who spends long days sitting and feels stiff. The textured surface gives firmer, more focused pressure than a smooth roller, which many regular users like on the thighs and calves. Complete beginners may find it intense at first and can reduce the pressure by supporting more of their weight with the hands. Treat rolling as a comfort and preparation tool, not as treatment for an injury.

A 6-minute rolling routine

Roll slowly, about one centimetre per second, for 30–60 seconds per area:

  1. Calves: sit with the roller under one calf, lift your hips and roll from ankle to just below the knee.
  2. Hamstrings: move the roller under the back of the thighs and roll from just above the knee to below the glutes.
  3. Quads: turn onto your front, forearms on the floor, and roll the front of the thighs.
  4. Glutes: sit on the roller, cross one ankle over the other knee and lean towards the crossed leg.
  5. Upper back: lie with the roller across your shoulder blades, hands behind your head, and roll between mid-back and shoulders.

Follow it with a few stretches from our mobility routine for beginners. If your legs are sore after a hard session, our article on how long muscle soreness lasts explains what is normal.

Safety notes

Do not roll directly over joints, bones or the lower back, and avoid areas with bruises, swelling or a fresh injury. Rolling should feel like firm pressure, not sharp pain. If you have circulation problems, are pregnant or have a medical condition, ask a doctor or physiotherapist first.

Care

Wipe the roller with a damp cloth and mild soap after use and let it dry. Store it away from radiators and direct sunlight, and do not use it as a step or seat to stand on.

FAQ

Is a textured foam roller harder than a smooth one?

It usually feels more intense, because the raised pattern concentrates pressure on smaller spots. If it feels too strong, take some weight off with your hands or your other leg.

How long should I roll each muscle?

About 30 to 60 seconds per area is enough for most people. Roll slowly and pause briefly on tender spots, but do not grind on one place for minutes.

Does foam rolling cure muscle soreness?

No tool makes soreness disappear. Many people find rolling feels good and helps them move more freely, but soreness still fades with time, sleep and easy movement.
