- Single wheel with a non-slip tread and blue foam handles
The LongFit Sport ab wheel is a simple ab roller in blue and black: a single wheel with a non-slip tread and a foam handle on each side that you roll forward and back while keeping your trunk stiff. It is made for rollouts, a demanding core exercise that trains your abs, the muscles around your spine and your shoulders together. It suits people who already have some basic core strength and want a small, cheap tool to make floor training harder.
Who it suits (and who should wait)
An ab wheel is not the gentlest first step. If planks, dead bugs and bird dogs still feel hard, spend a few weeks on those first; our home workout plan for beginners includes them and needs no equipment. Once you can hold a solid plank for around 30 seconds, the wheel is a good way to keep progressing. If you have back problems, check with a doctor or physiotherapist before you try rollouts.
How to do your first rollouts
Kneel on a mat, hold the handles with straight arms and place the wheel under your shoulders. Tighten your abs and glutes, then roll forward slowly. Stop before your hips sag or your lower back arches, and pull the wheel back by tensing your abs rather than bending at the hips.
A safe progression for the first weeks:
- Wall rollouts: kneel about an arm's length from a wall and roll into it. The wall stops the wheel before you go too far. Do 3 sets of 5.
- Free kneeling rollouts: roll out a little further each week, 3 sets of 5 to 8.
- Longer range: only when kneeling rollouts feel controlled, try rolling out further or slower.
Train it two or three times a week, not every day, and always stop a rep or two before your form breaks.
What to look for in an ab wheel
Check that the handles feel secure in your hands and the wheel rolls smoothly and straight. Wider wheels and double wheels feel a little more stable from side to side; narrow wheels demand more control. Whichever you use, the exercise matters more than the gadget.
Care and what to pair it with
Wipe the wheel and handles after use and keep dust and hair off the tread so it rolls cleanly. Store it where nobody can step on it. Pair it with an exercise mat for your knees, and combine rollouts with planks and glute bridges for balanced core training.

FAQ
Is an ab wheel suitable for beginners?
Only with a careful start. If you can hold a front plank for about 30 seconds with good form, begin with short rollouts from your knees and roll out only as far as you can keep your back from sagging.
Why do I feel the ab wheel in my lower back?
Usually because the hips drop and the lower back arches as you roll out too far. Shorten the distance, keep your ribs pulled down and stop if the discomfort continues.
Do I need a mat for the ab wheel?
It is strongly recommended. A mat or folded towel under your knees makes kneeling rollouts much more comfortable and protects hard floors.
