At a glance

  • Photochromic lens that darkens in bright light and lightens when it clouds over
  • Lens listed as category 1–3, from overcast days to sunny pistes
  • One size, unisex fit in a classic black frame
  • For skiing, snowboarding and other snow sports

The Joluvi Futura Photocromic are ski goggles with a black frame and a photochromic lens, listed as covering lens categories 1 to 3. A photochromic lens adjusts its tint to the light: it gets darker in bright sun and lighter when clouds roll in or you ski into the shade. That makes these goggles a practical single pair for recreational skiers and snowboarders who do not want to swap lenses during the day. They are one size and unisex.

Who they suit

Photochromic goggles suit holiday skiers, beginners and anyone who skis in mixed weather. In the Alps or the Pyrenees, a single morning can go from bright sun to flat light and back. A fixed dark lens is hard to see through when the light goes flat, and a light lens is tiring in strong sun. A category 1–3 lens covers that range. For very high, sunny glacier skiing you need category 4 protection, which this lens does not cover.

Fit and getting ready for the season

Try the goggles with your helmet if you have one. The foam should sit evenly on your face without pressing on your nose, and the gap between goggles and helmet should be small so your forehead does not get cold. Adjust the strap so the goggles stay put when you shake your head.

Ski days are hard on the legs. Two short strength sessions a week in the weeks before your trip, with squats, lunges and glute bridges, make the first days on the slopes more comfortable. Our guide to strength training for beginners shows how to set that up.

Care and lifespan

Never wipe the inside of the lens with a glove or tissue while it is wet: shake off the snow and let the goggles air-dry at room temperature, away from radiators. Clean the outside with a dry microfibre cloth. Store them in a soft goggle bag so the lens does not get scratched. Do not leave them on a sunny car dashboard, as heat can damage the lens and foam.

Safety notes

Check the lens category against the conditions: category 1–3 is not designed for extreme high-altitude glare. These goggles do not correct vision and are not a substitute for prescription eyewear.

FAQ

What does a category 1–3 photochromic lens mean?

The lens tints itself depending on the light. In flat, overcast light it stays lighter, around category 1, and in strong sun it darkens towards category 3, so one pair covers most typical ski days.

Can I wear my glasses under these goggles?

Compatibility with glasses (OTG) is not confirmed for this model. If you wear prescription glasses, try the fit in person first or consider contact lenses for skiing.

Will they fit with my helmet?

Helmet compatibility is not specified. Check that the strap is long enough to go around your helmet and that there is no large gap between the top of the goggles and the helmet's front edge.
