The Tecnifibre Players Pro overgrip is a thin polyurethane wrap that goes over the existing grip of a tennis or padel racket. This pack contains three overgrips in neon yellow, with finishing tape to fix the end. It is the quickest way to give a worn handle a fresh, secure feel and to cope with sweaty hands during long sessions.

Who it suits

Overgrips are useful for anyone who plays regularly. The original grip on a racket wears smooth over time, and swapping it is more work than wrapping a new overgrip on top. At 0.5 mm the Players Pro is on the thin side, so your handle keeps most of its original shape and size. Tecnifibre sells it as an absorbent overgrip with fast absorption, made from polyurethane with what it calls a Hydrocell bond to draw moisture away from your palm. The neon yellow is easy to find in a bag and shows clearly when the grip is getting dirty and due for a change.

How to wrap an overgrip in five steps

  1. Remove the old overgrip, then peel the protective film off the new one.
  2. Start at the butt cap with the tapered end, holding the overgrip at a slight angle.
  3. Wrap upwards with light, even tension, overlapping each turn by a few millimetres.
  4. Stop just below the throat of the racket. On a padel racket the handle is shorter, so you will usually cut off the rest.
  5. Cut the end at an angle and secure it with the finishing tape.

Right- and left-handed players usually wrap in opposite directions. Wrap so the overlapping edges run with your fingers, not against them. With a little practice, the whole job takes only a few minutes.

What to look for in an overgrip

Overgrips differ mainly in feel and thickness. Tacky models feel slightly sticky and give a firm hold; dry-feel models are closer to a towel and are popular with players whose hands sweat a lot. Thin overgrips keep the handle close to its original size, while thicker or cushioned ones add comfort and a bit of girth. If you are between two grip sizes, a common approach is to pick the smaller handle and build it up with an overgrip.

Care and lifespan

An overgrip is a consumable. Let your racket air out after play instead of leaving it closed in a damp bag, and dry your hands on a towel between points so the overgrip stays fresh longer. Keep the spare overgrips in their packaging until you need them. Pair them with a vibration dampener and a court towel, and your racket is ready for the next match.

FAQ

Does this overgrip fit a padel racket?

Yes. Overgrips wrap over the base grip of any tennis or padel racket. Padel handles are shorter, so you will usually cut off the excess before fixing the end with tape.

How often should I change my overgrip?

It depends on how often you play and how much your hands sweat. Change it as soon as it feels smooth, looks shiny or starts to tear.

What is the difference between an overgrip and a replacement grip?

A replacement grip replaces the original grip and is thicker and cushioned. An overgrip is a thin layer wrapped on top of it, quick to change and meant to be replaced often.
