At a glance
- Made of silicone, which stretches and is less likely to pull hair than latex
- One size that stretches to fit
- Keeps hair together and out of your face while swimming
- Useful at pools that require a swim cap
This Intex swim cap is a basic one-size cap made of silicone. It keeps your hair together and out of your face while you swim, reduces how much chlorinated water soaks into it, and covers you at pools where a cap is required. It suits casual swimmers, people taking swim lessons and anyone doing regular lane sessions who wants something simple and durable rather than a racing cap.
Silicone or latex?
Swim caps are mostly made from latex, silicone or fabric. Silicone is thicker and softer than latex, tends to slide over hair instead of snagging it, and usually lasts longer. It also feels a little warmer, which many people find pleasant in cooler pools. Fabric caps are comfortable but let much more water through. If you swim a few times a week and simply want a cap that does the job, silicone is a sensible middle ground.
How to put it on
- Tie long hair into a low bun or ponytail.
- Put both hands inside the cap, fingers spread, and stretch it open.
- Place the front edge on your forehead, just above the eyebrows.
- Pull the cap back over your head and tuck in loose strands around the ears.
If the cap feels hard to pull on, wet your hair first. Put your goggles on after the cap, with the strap over it, so they sit more securely.
Fit it into your routine
Swimming is an easy way to add low-impact movement to your week, either as a steady endurance session or as a light day between harder workouts. Our guide on how many rest days per week explains where gentle activities like an easy swim can fit in.
Care and lifespan
Rinse the cap in cold, clean water after each swim to remove chlorine, shake it out and let it dry at room temperature, away from direct sun and heaters. Store it loosely in your swim bag rather than folded tightly when wet, so the inner surfaces do not stick together. Sharp fingernails and rings are the main cause of tears, so take care when stretching it. Replace the cap once it shows cracks or loses its stretch.

FAQ
Does a silicone swim cap keep my hair dry?
No. A swim cap reduces how much water and chlorine reach your hair and keeps it tidy, but water still gets underneath. Tucking in all your hair helps a little, but expect it to get wet.
How do I put on a silicone swim cap without pulling my hair?
Tie long hair back first, put both hands inside the cap and stretch it open, then place the front on your forehead and roll it back over your head. Wetting your hair beforehand also helps.
Can I choose the colour?
No. The cap comes in assorted designs and the one you receive is assigned at random.
